Pilgrimages of India
Shirdi - 1965 Delhi - Amritsar - Kashmir - Agra - 1970 Benaras - 1972

Here at the tender age of innocence I had the first experience of snow as we took a pony ride from Gulmarg to Khilanmarg. Though the journey was tedious but worth the experience playing in the snow and throwing snowballs at each other. I had the first sledge ride and clothed heavily with the woollens felt no less than Santa Claus.

Pahalgam
Pahalgam is about 95 km east of Srinagar, at an altitude of 2130 m. Pahaglam formed a popular trekking base at the junction of east and west Lidder rivers, before the present troubles. Each year thousands of pilgrims approach the Amarnath cave from this area.

Gulmarg
Huge meadows lush and green with slopes where the cowbells break the silence. All round are snow-capped mountains -you can see the Nanga Parbhat from one direction. It has one of the world's highest green golf courses.

Khilanmarg
A pony track leads upwards to Khilanmarg from Gulmarg. Here we come to the snow slopes and this was my first experience of snow.
