The
Jadeja Rajputs ruled Jamnagar. The city is built around the small
Ranmal Lake, in the center of, which is a small palace, reached
by a causeway. Jamnagar is famous for pearl fishing and bandhani
- knotting and dying process. There is also the only Ayurvedic
University in India.
Places to see
Lakhota Palace
This palace belongs to the Maharaja of Nawanagar, which today
houses the museum.
Bala Hanuman Temple
The Bala Hanuman temple is on the southeastern side of Ranmal
Lake. Here since August 1st 1964 there has been 24 hours chanting
of the invocation 'Shri Ram, Jai Ram, Jai Jai Ram. '
Jain Temple
There are two Jain temples, Shanthinath Mandir and Adhinath Mandir,
which are very colorful with fine murals and domes.
Cremation Park
This is an interesting place to visit and the atmosphere is anything
but depressing. There are statues of saints, deities and scenes
from Ramayana.
