Being
the birthplace of Krishna, the popular incarnation of Vishnu,
Mathura is a major pilgrimage place for the Hindus. Nearby is
Vrindavan where Krishna 'sported' with his gopis (milkmaids).
The Hare Krishnas as well have their headquarters at Vrindavan.

Krishna Janmbhoomi
The foundations of Kesava Deo Temple have is a small room designed
to look like a prison cell. The pilgrims from everywhere line
up near the stone slab on which Lord Krishna is said to have born
3500 years ago.
Dwakadeesh
Temple
Built by Seth Gokuldas of Gwalior in 1914, this temple is dedicated
to Lord Krishna is in the heart of the city.
Gita Mandir
On the Mathura- Vrindavan Road, the Gita temple is a modern structure
with a number of paintings and carvings from Hindu mythological
and religious literature. The whole of the Bhagvad Gita is inscribed
on the Gita Stambh.
Jama Masjid
The mosque lies in the very heart of the city and was built by
Abe-in-Nabir-Khan, the local governor in 1661 AD on the ruins
of the Keshav Deo temple dedicated to Lord Krishna which was destroyed
by Aurangzeb. This is the place where lord Krishna is believed
to have been born in prison.
Sati Burj
Is a slender four-storied quadrangular tower of red sandstone.
It was built in 1570 AD, by the son of Behari Mai of Jaipur to
commemorate the 'sati' sacrifice of his mother.
Vishram Ghat
The most important bathing ghat. Lord Krishna is said to have
rested here after killing Kansa, the tyrant king of Mathura. The
'arti' in the morning and evening is worth seeing at the riverside.
