The
second most important temple dedicated to Lord Krishna in Gujarat,
it is situated on the banks of the river Gomati, 90 km southeast
of Ahmedabad. The first in line is the famous Dwaraka in Saurashtra.
The legend which surrounds the Shri Krishna idol at Dakor tells
a story that Lord Krishna took pity on his old devotee Bodana,
who used to traverse the long distance from Dakor to Dwaraka and
went with him to Dakor in the form of an idol. To enjoy the grandeur
of the festivals, visit Dakor on Sharad Purnima night (full moon
night in the month of November).
How to get there
You can reach Dakor by road from both Vadodara as well as Ahmedabad.
It is 47 km from Vadodara and 90 km from Ahmedabad.
Ambaji Temple
There are many places in Gujarat, presenting the temples dedicated
to Amba Mata, the mother Goddess. The most important of them is
Ambaji. The Ambaji Mata temple is located in the Aravali mountain
range in Banaskanta District of Gujarat. This temple of Ambaji
Mata has a unique feature. It is made out of pure marble. Ambaji
is in fact famous for some of the best marble in the country.
The most fascinating varieties of marble are mined in and around
Ambaji.
Unlike other idols of deities, the deity of this temple is not
represented by an idol. It is in fact; a triangular Vishwa Yantra
inscribed with fingers and the syllable "Shree" in the
center. The temple of Amba Mata is believed to be one of the original
18 Shakti peethas in the country. Thousands of devotees throng
to this place during the holy Indian month of Bhadrapad (August-September).
They trek hundreds of miles on foot to reach the temple by Bhadrapad
Poonam.
Ambaji is believed to be the site where the tonsorial ceremony
of Lord Krishna was performed. Once you have seen the temple in
and out, proceed further to have a look at the Jain temples of
Kumbhariya, the Amba Mata's temple on Gabbargadh. These two places
are quite close to Ambaji. At a distance of around 1.5 kilometers
from here, you come across a small village famous for its Jan
temples. The temples are dedicated to different Jain Tirthankaras.
Eight kilometers away from Ambaji is another popular tourist place.
Known as Koteshwar, it forms the main source of the river Saraswati.
The ritual worships of Ambaji performed in Chachar Chowk, a Pot
or Kalash is also shining on a height on the top of the temple
more than three tonnes as it is specially made from a whole spot
brought out from the mines (Parvat) Hill and has been plated gold,
attached with The Holy Ambaji and Trishul. After 1975 trust has
started to renovate complex and its surroundings carpeting of
beautiful marble.
At the newly constructed Main Temple it is worth seeing, the
architecture of very artistic and wonderful the Indian Culture
and Traditional Miracle of this Holy Place is the famous Shakti
Pith of this Universe that is to say it is one of the source of
Power of Universe and so it is the Supreme Cosmic Energy and had
no idol or picture in the Nij Mandir of Shri-Arasuri Mata Ambaji,
it is a simple cave like Gokh in which a Gold Plated Holy Shakthi
Yantra is visible, but it is photographed in the past. But this
Holy Gokh of Mata Adi Shakthi Yantra is to the Pujari of this
Holy Place imagined as an idol of Maa.
History of Ambaji Temple
According to the Indian Mythological Scriptures, Ambaji, which
is very famous among the various holy places of India, is situated
on the border of States of Gujarat and Rajasthan, in the Danta
Taluka of Banaskantha District, near the origin of the famous
Vedic virgin river SARASWATI, on the hills of Arasur Pravat in
Ambica forest, towards south-west side to ancient hills of Arvalli,
is in fact One of the Fifty One (51) famous Ancient Pauranki Shakti
Piths as the Symbol of the Supreme Original Cosmic Power of the
Universe Devi Adhya Shakthi in India.
But this Holy Gokh of Mata Ambaji with Shakti Yantra is so decorated
by the priests Pujari of the Holy Place that one can see it or
imagine it as an idol of Mata Ambica in one of her incarnations
or swaroop of Nav Durg The Main Temple of Ambaji is smaller with
a huge Mandap and a Holy Gokh of Mataji in the Garbh-Gruh, in
front of which is a huge Chachar Chowk.
How to get there
Ambaji is 174 km from Ahmedabad. Gujarat State Road Transport
Corporation also has buses plying regularly to Ambaji from Ahmedabad.
You can also travel by buses operated by private organisations.
Abu Road Railway station is 23 kms.
