Pilgrimages of India
Orissa - 1986 Udaipur - 1987 Mt. Abu & Gujarat - 1987

At the age of 32 years the family decided to visit the 'FAMILY- DIETY - SHRINATHJI'. My parents, brother and his wife, sister and her husband, my elder sister and myself went on this pilgrimage. We went to Udaipur and took 2 taxis and proceeded to Nathdwara from there we came to Jaipur from where we flew back to Mumbai.

We are the followers of Lord Shrinathji [Lord Krishna] the famous temple in Nathdwara. Over here how the day is spent just looking at the vestment and ornament changes of the Shrinathji done with love and reverence keeps you spellbound admiring the imagination and beautiful creativity of the devotees. Every darshan is new and the prasad of the Raj bhog is one of the most unforgetable lunch one can ever partake.

SHREENATHJI TEMPLE
SHREENATHJI TEMPLEShreenathji temple is located in the heart of Nathdwara. The temple is handled by Temple Board Trust. The temple of Shrinathji or Lord Krishna, is 48 kms. North of Udaipur. In the temple, enshrined is a unique image of Lord Krishna, which has been sculptured from a single piece of black marble. It is believed that during the reign of the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb, Lord Krishna's image was brought to Mewar from Mathura by Goswami Devji and enshrined with complete Vedic rites and tradition at Shrinathji by the ruler of Mewar.

One of the arms of the life size image is raised in a manner so as to give an impression of holding the Govardhan Mountain. The other armrests at the waist, which seems not only a dance posture but also as if God is blessing the devotees. In Shrinathji temple, worship (puja) is replaced by servitude (seva). The temple priests change the vestments and ornaments of Shrinathji daily with love and reverence. It is believed that he appears to his devotees in many forms: the divine child inspiring parental love, the flute playing god in the forests of Vrindavan luring maidens with the melody of the flute.

Places worth seeing in the temple include the Moti Mahal, Sudarshan Chakraraj, Dhwajaji, Kamal Chowk, Mani Kotha and the temple of Shri Navnit Priyaji. The Shri Krishna storehouse has silver and golden silver mills. Apart from that, the Shakghar milkbooth and the outlets having roses, betel leaf sweets and clothes as well as the garden are worth a visit. The temple has three entrances. The first is through the red door at Chaupati from where the Govardhan worship can be reached. Surajpol is an entrance exclusively for women and leads to Kamal Chowk through Singhpol. Various religious festivals are celebrated at the temple like Janmasthmi, Phooldol and Diwali. The annakoot ritual is famous worldwide where cooked rice is hurled at the devotees after the ceremony and is 'looted' by them. The narrow lanes of Nathdwara have many souvenir shops.
